Loving more

'I've had reason to love more and be to less afraid in the last few weeks.  My next-door neighbour but one was burgled, supposedly by a Chilean gang.  His alarm went off and we went to investigate.  However, when we saw the neighbour's car in the drive we assumed he was there and that it was a false alarm.

I was told that these gangs probably watched the houses to see when they were empty, so I felt the need whenever I left the house to just pray to protect it and to know that God's arm was around my home, but also to know that none of His children would be attracted to theft.  However, I had recently been outraged by the news of a family of career burglars who preyed on the elderly.  Sitting in my car before a journey I realised I couldn't see God's man on the one hand being honest and loving and on the other hand being manipulative and dishonest.

Mrs Eddy writes in Science & Health on p200:

The great truth in the Science of being, that the real man was, is, and ever shall be perfect, is incontrovertible; for if man is the image, reflection, of God, he is neither inverted nor subverted, but upright and Godlike.

She also writes on p. 239:  The wicked man is not the ruler of his upright neighbor

All OK in theory but then I had to put into practice.  The burglary had really spooked me, and although I've lived in my home on my own over the years with no problem, I was not looking forward to a week on my own without my husband.

The first night I was awake most of the time!  When I mentioned this whole episode to a practitioner she told me that when I see or hear any negative news I should not re-act.  She also suggested wrapping myself up at night with Psalm 91 - which begins:  HE that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

I did that that night and had a great sleep!

I've still got three nights on my own but I know that all is well.'

... and so it was !
