I had reason for thanks giving on Thanksgiving day!
That morning I had been praying that there is only one creation, one man – all made in God’s image and likeness and continued to do this as I later walked down a shopping street.
Stepping on the metal doors on the pavement outside a pub (where barrels are rolled into the cellar) the doors opened beneath me sending me forward crashing to the ground. A man shouted from the cellar, “Someone should always be there when these doors are opened.” A young man appeared, apologising and said “I went off to get a trolley!! I was shaken but ok and got up.
All I could think as three men and a woman rushed to help me was “I was praying and it protected me.” These kind people were very concerned and voiced that limbs could have been broken. One of the men stepped forward and gently touching my arm asked if I was alright, I said “I was praying and it protected me.” Which it surely had.
The woman was shaken by what she had witnessed and I held her arm as she moved towards the pedestrian crossing and said quietly “You see prayer does work.”
I finished my errands and driving home delayed shock and nausea set in. I prayed the Scientific Statement of Being for a short while and these feelings gradually lifted. When I returned home I cleaned a small leg gash and stiffness started to lessen.
That was certainly a cause for thanksgiving!
After several weeks severe pain in my leg from the fall had not healed and I was finding moving quite difficult. I listened for an angel thought and the words came “bone bruising.” I recalled that this type of bruising can take weeks or even months to heal.
At the Sunday service that week the word “marrow” in the Lesson Sermon jumped out at me. The paragraph on p. 423 reads :
“The Christian Scientist, understanding scientifically that all is Mind, commences with mental causation, the truth of being, to destroy the error. This corrective is an alterative, reaching to every part of the human system. According to Scripture, it searches the joints and marrow,” and it restores the harmony of man.”
A dictionary definition of ‘marrow’ was “essence” “core.” I saw that the essence of my being, my very core was only spiritual which had never been touched or damaged. The following morning the pain lessened and after a couple of days I realised I was healed of the pain.
It reminded me that our church services are healing services and we can expect to find answers to any problems we may be facing.
