Our two sons have done their fair share of air travel this year, going abroad on business trips and on holiday, and between them they’ve enjoyed visiting America, Holland, Germany, Poland, Greece and Japan! In this age of instant communication, both sons always thoughtfully contact us on arrival in some distant land...I’m always so grateful to receive their texts with those reassuring words “landed safely”!
I never fail to be in awe of the technology which allows us to keep in touch with loved ones around the world. We hear a lot these days about the “5G” network, which apparently is short for “fifth generation mobile networks”, which lets you call, text and go online from your smartphone...and which is set to be faster and more reliable than ever before.
But, in my experience, there is a downside to this amazing technology...if I don’t receive that eagerly-anticipated text or message (due to lack of signal, flat battery or any other reason),this can open the door to periods of worry and uncertainty. This year, I have been endeavouring to get my news of dear ones straight from God, rather than from my mobile phone. Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health, “The intercommunication is always from God to His idea, man”...so all the communication I need is coming to me directly from my Father-Mother. Regarding our precious sons, God is saying to me, “They are My children. I will take good care of them. They are safe”.
Recently, as I was dwelling on this spiritual sense of communication, as opposed to that supplied by the 5G phone network, a line from a poem just dropped into thought. I had no idea where it came from, but the message was loud and clear: GOD, GOOD, GUIDES, GUARDS and GOVERNS. The5Gs! Instead of relying heavily on text messages and emails from family members, I could listen to those 5Gs emanating from the one Mind, telling me that all is well. A fellow-Christian Scientist later informed me that the line which had come to me so clearly was from a poem entitled “The 5Gs”, by Susan Mack.
So now, as wonderful as it is to receive electronic messages from our sons on their travels, I always tune in to those spiritual 5Gs to get my news of their safety and well- being, knowing that “God, good, guides, guards and governs”.
