I would like to express my gratitude for Christian Science practitioners, who always stand ready to help in time of need. When they enter the public practice of Christian Science, they know that there will be many times when they will be called upon late at night or in the early hours of the morning...perhaps woken from a deep sleep and needing to be instantly alert and ready to help the person at the other end of the phone. I am in awe at the unselfed love for mankind which these practitioners demonstrate every day as they steadfastly support their patients through challenging times.
I have not often needed to ring a practitioner for help in the early hours, but at one time I found myself having to do just that. I resisted calling this dear one for several hours, as I didn’t want to disturb her at night, but eventually, in great need, I dialled her number, feeling the deepest gratitude for Mrs. Eddy, who in her wisdom had established the office of Christian Science practitioner. Needless to say, the practitioner’s response was immediate, loving and very effective, and before long I began to feel more comfortable, and was able to sleep for a few hours. The next morning I called the practitioner to thank her for her unwavering support, rejoicing in the progress that had been made.
Mrs. Eddy writes, “The consciousness of Truth rests us more than hours of repose in unconsciousness”. I’m sure our devoted practitioners have had to demonstrate this particular truth many times during their years in the healing practice of Christian Science, and for this, we owe them our deepest gratitude.
