Even the smallest prayer is effective

When we hear of disasters, such as the Ukraine dam bombing and turn to God for a message to direct our prayer, we might be tempted to wonder how effective our small prayer is in such a dire situation.

I learned something spiritual from a recent visit we made to Bletchley Park, the WW2 code breaking centre - that our smallest prayer is powerful and does have an effect.

As we may know, Bletchley Park demanded the highest level of secrecy so that nothing was transmitted to other workers in another ‘hut, Each ‘hut’ was working on a specific area of the war. Staff had to be diligent at all times, so that waitresses, cleaners and outside workers, did not overhear their conversations in public areas and they had to be especially alert when returning to their billets which were off campus.

For example, one staffer’s work was recording incoming fastly flowing information on index cards day in and day out, a menial and repetitious job, not knowing how their small contribution was to be useful in the next stage of the war plan - and no one outside their ‘hut’ knew what they were doing But their precision, diligence and obedience, were vital parts to the next stage of operation.

Here's where I spiritually translated Bletchley’s work to how we, as Christian Scientists pray. The rules that Mary Baker Eddy set out in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures require the same qualities of precision, diligence and obedience, even if we can’t immediately see results when we’re working out a problem. But expanding those qualities in our thought and living and seeing God as the source, is all that is required of us. How our problem will be resolved is already resolved in God’s Great Plan

We just have to listen, moment by moment. This is helping me to focus on how to pray about the Ukraine dam situation. And I know, it IS healing.
