'New employment possibilities during Covid'

New Employment Possibilities During Covid

I’ve been thinking a lot about the unemployment caused by the Covid epidemic. Wanting to get some fresh ideas in my prayers the word ‘gaze’ which came up twice in the recent Lesson Sermon, ‘Adam and Fallen Man’ arrested my thought.

“Do you not hear from all mankind of the imperfect model? To remedy this, we must first turn our gaze in the right direction, and then walk that way.” (S&H p 248: 25-26)

“We should look away from the opposite supposition that man is created materially, and turn our gaze to the spiritual record of creation, to that which should be engraved on the understanding and heart “with the point of a diamond” and the pen of an angel.” (S&H p 23: 12-17)

A dictionary definition of ‘gaze’ is ‘staring intently'.

Expanding this in my thought I reasoned that it was natural for people who’ve been made redundant to look for other employment in the same type of work. But being so fixed and intent on doing this their thought can be closed to new and creative possibilities.

One hears of many people who’ve been willing to make such a change and then discovered employment they’d never imagined. Hitherto unknown creativity popped out in themselves and new talents appeared. Turning focus from only what’s familiar to us and stretching and trusting a new possibility can be life changing.

This sentence from Science and Health (p 258: 13-15) sums it up so well: “God expresses in man the infinite idea forever developing itself, broadening and rising higher and higher from a boundless basis.”

God is continually bringing ideas to our thought that we may have never thought of and all we need to do is open our thought wide and let these ideas flood in and a new adventure awaits us!
